Rail replacement service

At c2c, we try our best to deliver an excellent service, with on-time trains, clean comfortable carriages and staff happy to help. However, things can’t always go to plan, or essential maintenance is needed to keep our route safe.

If for any reason our trains are experiencing disruptions or engineering work is being carried out, a rail replacement service will be offered to keep you on the move.

Some restrictions and considerations apply:

  • Rail replacement buses may leave earlier than the normal time; please check times before you travel
  • Customers must have a valid train ticket before boarding
  • It will not be possible to carry e-scooters, cycles (except folding) or dogs (except Guide Dogs)
  • Pushchairs and prams should be folded down where possible
  • Wheelchairs can be carried onto buses
  • Alcohol is not allowed
  • There are no toilets available on buses
  • Our commitment to you during times of planned disruption:
    • Subject to operational requirements, all buses will be low-floor and fully accessible. Coaches are, generally, not accessible. If required, alternative accessible transport will be arranged by our rail replacement staff.
    • All rail replacement buses will have a maximum age of fifteen years with the majority being five years old or less
    • All rail replacement buses will be clean and tidy internally
    • All rail replacement buses will be clean externally, subject to the time of year and weather conditions
    • All of our rail replacement staff will be friendly, helpful and able to assist you with any travel enquiries you may have
    • The majority of our rail replacement buses are accessible as we work hard to ensure PSVAR-compliant vehicles are used
